Our pets are warm, cuddly, and hard to resist. It’s no wonder so many pet owners prefer to take their pets with them whenever they go.
Millions of pet owners take their pet with them when they go on holiday trips, every time they go out, and many even let their pet sleep on their very own bed.
And it isn’t hard to see why so many people want to share their bed with their pet. Pets provide warmth, comfort, and a sense of security.
However, as much as we would want to deny it, there are also numerous reasons we shouldn’t let our pets sleep on our bed.
First of all, pets can trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks. Exposure to pet dander and fur in itself can already prompt allergies and asthma. To make matters worse, dust, pollen, and other particulates can easily stick to your pet’s fur. Once your pet sleeps on your own bed, these contaminants might be transferred to the sheets, and you can inhale them.
Another good reason to buy your pets their own bed rather than letting them sleep next to you is because of ticks or fleas. If your pet has ticks or fleas, these can move to your sheets, and eventually crawl to your skin.
Presence of parasites in your pet means parasite eggs on your pet’s fur. These eggs will also be left on your sheets, undetected.
Additionally, sharing your bed with your pet can also lead to sleep disturbance. Even though sleeping next to your pets can make you feel warm, comfortable, and secure, it doesn’t always mean that you’ll get a good night’s sleep. Studies show that pet owners who sleep with their pets on the same bed have the tendency to get a disrupted sleep throughout the night.
In summary, it will still be better to get your pet their own bed to sleep on every night. You can still put their bed in the same room as yours, but avoid letting them sleep on your very bed.
Despite all this and you still want your pet to sleep on your bed, just make sure they are up to date on all their flea and tick medications, and if you do let your pet sleep with you and they are used to it, make sure you find a dog boarding facility that will also let your pet sleep n a bed with someone so they feel as comfortable ad possible while you’re away.
